Success Stories
Jeff - ”I would like to personally thank the wonderful staff and volunteers at the COMEA House. They provide a great service to the community through their efforts. They provided the opportunity for me to turn my life around and be independent again.”
Jeff was a heavy wrecker and over the road truck driver in Texas when he lost his job due to the economy. He decided to come to Cheyenne in part because of our quiet atmosphere and in part because of the fact that our economy wasn’t affected as much as it was in Texas. He took a bus to Denver and got stuck there for a week, finally he was picked up by a Cheyenne resident and because he had no plans for where to stay in Cheyenne he was brought to COMEA House.
We gave Jeff a bed, shower and a meal, the next day Jeff went out and found a job as a helper at a local Trailer sales company. Jeff has worked for this company for 5 months now and now is the general manager and has his own home and is completely self-sufficient.
Jeff stayed with us for 45 days and took part in case management meetings to make sure when he left he would have the greatest chance at success and not have to return to homelessness.
Congratulations Jeff
Scott Hillson - "After spending over 16 years on and off the streets and not having a steady job I ended up in Cheyenne at the Comea Homeless Shelter.”I arrived here with my girlfriend and decided it was time to make a change in my life. I got sober, since you can’t stay here and drink, and got into a recovery program. After joining the journey program I learned how to fill out an application, the class helped me with a resume and I got clothes to go to an interview. After four weeks I got a job and began the process to move out. The donation room got an apartment kit for me and I was able to find a place that my employer was renting. Since leaving I am still sober, still employed and am on the right path for the first time in 20 years. I thank Comea and the Journey program for helping me get on my feet.”
Ross Acosta - “I got to Comea in the family room with my wife because we couldn’t pay our rent and neither of us had a job. Our baby needed shelter so we came here looking for help. The class taught me how to look for a job and how to do an interview. Soon I got a job and so did my wife. The class even helped me get the right work clothes! Now we have an apartment and jobs, and we are buying our first car soon.”
Mike Johnson - “After hitting a bump in my life I ended up at Comea. I came in the doors with out a place and without a job. I knew how to find work but after taking the class I learned some life skills that helped me out. I was able to hold my head up when I left Comea. I am now back on my feet working things out with my wife and driving a truck. I didn’t need much help but I gained quite a lot helping others out in the Journey class. Thank you Comea!” |
